Understanding Coryell County Released Inmates
A release is an event, not one universal status. The Coryell County Sheriff owns the physical county-jail booking and exit record. The court owns the bond order, dismissal, judgment, sentence, jail-time credit, or other legal authority. TDCJ owns state-prison calculations and release history, while the Board of Pardons and Paroles owns parole and discretionary mandatory-supervision votes.
A person may leave the Coryell County Jail on bond, personal recognizance or supervised pretrial release, dismissal, acquittal, time served, sentence completion, transfer, writ, or another order. State-prison exits may be parole, mandatory supervision, or final discharge. Transfer from the jail to TDCJ, another jail, federal custody, or immigration custody ends one booking but does not mean return to the community.
Coryell County Release Types and Records
The right proof depends on the exit. A current roster cannot supply the legal reason or actual release time because those fields are not displayed.
| Event | What it means | Best next record |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or pretrial release | The person leaves jail under a court-approved release authority. | Sheriff release entry plus bond or pretrial order |
| Dismissal or acquittal | The criminal case ends without a conviction on that charge. | Court disposition plus jail exit record |
| County sentence completion | A local sentence and credited jail time are completed. | Judgment, credit calculation, and sheriff release entry |
| Transfer | Custody moves to TDCJ, another jail, ICE, or a federal agency. | Transfer destination and receiving-agency record |
| Parole or mandatory supervision | Physical state-prison custody ends while legal supervision continues. | TDCJ record, BPP vote, and Parole Division status |
| Discharge | The state sentence and related supervision are complete. | TDCJ discharge history or public records response |
What Coryell County Release Records Show
The strongest county proof pairs the actual date and time with release type or destination. A narrow request can seek the following existing fields, though the Sheriff may not store every item and may redact protected information.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Full name, aliases, DOB | Identity tied to the booking |
| Booking or jail number | The specific custody episode |
| Booking and release date/time | When county custody began and ended |
| Release type or disposition | How the jail classified the exit |
| Receiving agency or destination | Whether the event was a transfer |
| Charges, bonds, authorization | The booking entries and authority connected to release |
| Booking sheet, release screen, photo | The underlying jail records and image, when releasable |
A court judgment explains the case outcome, but it does not by itself prove the hour jail staff completed release. Conversely, a jail record may show the exit without supplying the full reasoning found in the court file. Keep both when the distinction matters.
Request Coryell County Release Records
The Sheriff’s written-record instructions direct requesters to identify the record and call first about availability or cost. Records Clerk Abcde Kinkade is listed at 254-865-7201 extension 501. Requests may be mailed to ATTN Records Clerk / Records Request, Coryell County Sheriff’s Office, 510 Leon Street, Gatesville, TX 76528, faxed to 254-865-7774, or sent through the official records-clerk form.
- Identify the person with full name, DOB, booking number, arresting agency, and a narrow date range.
- Ask for the booking sheet, release screen or log entry, actual exit date and time, release type, destination, authorization, and booking photo.
- Request electronic delivery and an estimate before work begins.
- If material is withheld, ask for separable public portions and the legal basis for each withheld part.
Published basic rates are subject to change: nine pages or fewer are free; ten pages cost $1, then each additional page is $0.10. Listed external-drive prices vary by size, and postage or shipping may apply. Texas law requires an estimate before work when charges exceed $40.
Texas Law and Coryell Release Records
Government Code Chapter 552 governs requests to Coryell County and TDCJ. A request should seek existing information from the body that holds it. An agency need not answer research questions or create a custom list. “Promptly” means reasonably without delay; ten business days is not a universal production deadline. If production will take longer, the body should state when records will be available.
DOB information for a living person, driver records, juvenile and child-abuse records, protected officer data, pending law-enforcement interests, privacy, and other laws may cause redaction. The absence of an old card from the sheriff website does not establish that the underlying record was destroyed.
Coryell Pretrial Release Is Not Sentence Completion
Coryell County Pretrial Services publishes local guidelines and forms. A supervised or bond-related pretrial release means the person left jail while the case continued. It is not proof that a sentence was served or the case was dismissed. The bond or pretrial order explains the legal authority; the sheriff release entry supplies the actual exit time. This distinction is especially useful when a current roster card has vanished but a court case remains active.
Find a Released Coryell County Inmate
Start with custody type, not a broad name search. Coryell’s county jail, six state prisons, court system, and supervision offices do not share one historical portal.
- Check the live Coryell roster only to see whether the person is currently booked.
- If absent, call 254-865-7201 and request the named booking’s release entry and any transfer destination.
- Use the correct court clerk for the bond, dismissal, judgment, sentence, or revocation.
- If the person entered state custody, search TDCJ by number or carefully matched identifiers.
- Check parole or probation through the agency that owns that supervision.
- Use BOP or ICE tools only when case facts point to federal or immigration custody.
TDCJ Search for Coryell County Releases
The TDCJ Inmate Search works best with a seven-digit TDCJ number or SID. A name search can be narrowed by gender or race. Compare the name, identifiers, offense, county or court, and dates before deciding that a result belongs to the same person.
| Search or result field | Use |
|---|---|
| TDCJ or SID number | Strongest search key |
| Last and first name | Broader match when no number is known |
| Gender and race | Filters for name results |
| Location and offenses | Current state context |
| Projected Release Date | A calculation, not guaranteed departure |
| Scheduled Release Date/Location | Post-certificate audit fields that can still change |
A person on parole or mandatory supervision may remain visible after physical release. For a fully discharged person missing online, use TDCJ’s informational email or formal PIA route. TDCJ phone information is available weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 936-295-6371 or 800-535-0283.
Coryell County Court Release Trail
Coryell’s court path splits by case level. The District Clerk holds felony records for the 52nd and 440th District Courts. Official survey data reported no online criminal case-record access. Posted docket PDFs are hearing calendars, not final judgments.
Misdemeanors belong with the County Clerk and County Court at Law. The eDocTec portal is a limited payment and name lookup, not full disposition access, and it excludes felony and probation matters. Ask the correct clerk for the judgment, dismissal, bond order, sentence, jail credit, or revocation, then pair it with the sheriff’s physical release record.
Read the Coryell Jail Roster Carefully
The sheriff’s custom eForce roster is designed for current custody. Its public cards show full name, race, ethnicity, birth year, arresting agency, computed days incarcerated, charge code or ordinance number, charge description, and a booking image when supplied. The card says “No Mugshot” when an image is unavailable. The user-facing search is by name, and the cards paginate.
The interface does not display a literal booking date, release date, release time, release reason, bond disposition, or destination. Even though the widget uses internal custody fields to build what appears on screen, those hidden mechanics do not turn the public roster into a historical release log. The sheriff FAQ calls the roster real time, which describes the current-custody update cycle rather than an archive schedule. No separate 24-hour, 48-hour, or 72-hour official release view was found as of August 2, 2026.
If a known card disappears, record when the roster was checked and request the corresponding release screen or transfer entry. Do not calculate an exit time from “Days Incarcerated,” and do not infer a release reason from the listed charge or arresting agency.
Coryell Probation and Parole Paths
Coryell CSCD runs court-ordered probation and has Gatesville and Copperas Cove offices, but no public person search. Its published services include education, evaluation, intervention programs, and providers. It is not TDCJ parole. Texas BPP decides parole and discretionary mandatory supervision, TDCJ Parole Division processes and supervises releases, and the county directory assigns Coryell parolees to the Temple District Parole Office. See the detailed Probation & Parole guide for verification steps.
Six TDCJ Prisons Change the Coryell Search
Coryell County contains six TDCJ institutions in addition to the county jail. Christina Melton Crain Unit performs intake and is a regional release site. Linda Woodman Unit performs female diagnostic intake. Patrick L. O’Daniel Unit retains code MV from its former Mountain View name. These local facts explain why intake, transfer, review, and release may all appear around Gatesville without describing the same event.
A woman who leaves a county jail and appears at Woodman remains in custody. A Crain location does not prove that a release occurred through its gate. Verify an individual’s scheduled release location and actual record through TDCJ.
Coryell Release Alerts and Federal Custody
Texas IVSS-Counties can provide participating county or court event alerts by text, call, or email. It may omit people no longer in custody and expressly is not an official record. State-prison alerts use the separate TDCJ Victim Services route. A delivered alert may corroborate an event, but the owning agency’s record remains the durable source.
BOP’s locator covers federal inmates released after 1982. A past release date with “RELEASED” or no facility supports exit from BOP, though supervision or other custody may follow. ICE ODLS covers current ICE custody and qualifying CBP custody longer than 48 hours. No result does not certify release. No federal or ICE facility was verified in Coryell County.
Coryell Release Evidence by Custodian
Conflicting dates should not be blended into one guessed answer. The jail owns the physical county exit, the court owns the legal order, TDCJ owns state sentence calculations, BPP owns its vote, and Parole Division or CSCD owns its distinct supervision function. Prefer the most specific dated record from the office responsible for that event.
Clear wording preserves the difference. “The live roster did not list the person” reports an observation. “The sheriff release log records an exit on a stated date and time” reports a county event. “The court dismissed the charge” reports a case result, but not when jail processing ended. “TDCJ shows parole supervision” supports physical state release with continued legal custody after the correct identity is matched.
When two official records disagree, retain both dates, note what each one measures, and ask the responsible custodian to clarify. A scheduled date may differ from the physical exit, and a court order may precede the jail-management timestamp.
Expunction and Coryell Release Records
Texas moved expunction law to Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 55A in 2025. Release alone does not create eligibility. Charge status, waiting or limitation rules, exclusions, acquittal, and pardon facts may control. Nondisclosure restricts public disclosure for eligible matters but does not erase every government record or bar all authorized access.
The Coryell District Clerk publishes separate Coryell-entity and state-agency service lists for expunction work. Those lists are a local procedural aid, not a promise that an old booking image or every online trace will disappear.
Released or Confined in Coryell County
Match the system to the question before interpreting a result.
| System | Still in custody | Released-person evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Sheriff roster | Current county booking | Absence only prompts verification |
| Sheriff written record | Booking history | Actual county release entry, type, time, destination |
| Court file | Detention or bond order | Disposition and legal authority, not physical exit time |
| TDCJ | State location | Release, supervision, projected/scheduled and discharge data |
| BOP | Federal facility | Past federal release date and RELEASED status |
| ICE ODLS | Current covered immigration custody | No historical release certification |
