Hughes Unit Release Paths

Alfred D. Hughes Unit is a TDCJ Correctional Institutions Division prison. A physical exit may lead to parole or mandatory supervision in the community, final discharge at sentence expiration, or another TDCJ location. Parole is conditional release while the sentence continues under supervision. Mandatory supervision is a statutory release form for an eligible case. Discharge means the relevant state custody or supervision obligation has ended.

A transfer is not a release. Temporary movement also remains custody. TDCJ's individual record, not the Coryell Sheriff roster, identifies the state-prison path. Hughes Unit Custody Profile

TDCJ identifies Hughes as a men's prison with code AH. It is geographically separate from Coryell County's co-located women's complex, although those units cooperate in agricultural operations. The official directory lists custody levels G1 through G5, security detention, safekeeping, and mental-health housing.

Capacity is not a current population or release count. Custody level also does not predict a release date. Sentence facts, offense date, credits, eligibility rules, Board decisions, holds, and the final audit shape the person's record.

Hughes Release Date Labels

TDCJ's Projected Release Date is the Classification and Records Office projection of when incarceration will end if parole does not occur sooner. It is calculated under the offense title and date. It is not guaranteed. After a favorable decision and receipt of a release certificate, TDCJ audits the file and may display a Scheduled Release Date and Scheduled Release Location.

A favorable Board vote can require a program or other condition before exit. The vote alone is not departure. Detainers, final record corrections, residence approval, or sentence calculations can also affect timing.

Hughes Parole Office Distinctions

Coryell County has several offices that sound relevant but perform different work. The Gatesville Institutional Parole Office prepares institutional cases. It is not the general office that supervises people living in the community. The Gatesville Board Office participates in Board functions and likewise is not the routine street-supervision office.

For a Coryell resident released under state supervision, TDCJ's statewide county directory maps community supervision to the Temple District Parole Office. A release plan may assign another office based on the approved residence, so check the individual record rather than assuming Gatesville. This distinction prevents an institutional case contact from being mistaken for the officer supervising a released person.

That result is useful because it links the person to the state system and can show supervision context. Full discharge may eventually make an old case harder to locate online. When the person no longer appears, use TDCJ's informational email or formal public-information request. Include the full name and TDCJ number. If the number is unknown, provide date of birth or approximate age and county of conviction. Ask for exact existing records rather than a narrative explanation. The commitment and incarceration history, release type and date, discharge date, release certificate, release unit, and public supervision status can resolve the timeline.

Compare the TDCJ response with the conviction court when a sentence correction or later court action may matter. A court order can alter the legal basis, while TDCJ records document state processing.
