Murray Unit Release Outcomes
Dr. Lane Murray Unit is a TDCJ Correctional Institutions Division prison for women. It is not operated by the Coryell County Sheriff's Office. A physical exit may begin parole or mandatory supervision, both of which leave supervision in place. Another person may discharge at maximum expiration, ending the sentence and attached supervision. Each outcome needs a person-specific state record.
A reassignment to Crain, Hilltop, Woodman, Hughes, O'Daniel, or another state unit is a transfer. It is not return to the community. The same is true when an individual goes to a program or release-processing location while remaining under TDCJ control. Ask what event occurred, on what date, and under which authority instead of treating disappearance from one unit as release.
Verify a Murray Unit Release
Search the TDCJ offender database with a TDCJ number or SID number when possible. A careful name query is the fallback. Open the matching detail and compare identifying facts, conviction county, offense, court, current location, and dates. Similar names can produce a false match, so no date should be used until identity is settled.
A practical check follows these steps:
- Match the TDCJ or SID number to the intended person.
- Note whether Murray is the present unit or only part of older history.
- Read Projected Release Date as an estimate that can change.
- Look for Scheduled Release Date and Scheduled Release Location after an audited plan exists.
- After the date, confirm actual release, supervision, or final discharge through TDCJ records.

Murray Programs Are Not Release
Murray's official profile lists Corrective Intervention Pre-Release, CHANGES and pre-release work, and reentry planning. Those programs can help prepare for a possible transition. They are evidence of programming, not evidence that the gate opened. Enrollment, completion, or placement on a waiting list does not replace the audited release record.
The distinction matters when a Board result includes an FI code. FI means further investigation or a specified action before release, depending on the vote language. A favorable-looking result can require completion of a program, transfer to a program site, or another condition. More custody may follow before physical exit. Read the exact vote and later TDCJ status rather than shortening every FI result to “approved and released.”
Murray Release Date Fields
TDCJ defines the Projected Release Date as a conditional estimate from Classification and Records. It is based on the sentence and offense information then in the system and assumes parole does not occur first. The date can move after legal, credit, disciplinary, or administrative changes. It is not a promised exit date.
When a favorable decision, release certificate, and audit support a plan, Scheduled Release Date and Scheduled Release Location may appear. These fields are stronger planning evidence but still do not prove the event was completed. Check the later record and request documentation where certainty matters.

Murray Parole and FI Results
The Board of Pardons and Paroles owns the parole vote. TDCJ then handles the release certificate, file audit, and physical release process. An FI result should be read in full because its code can tie release to a program or another required step. The time between a vote and exit is therefore not a gap that should be filled with assumptions.
Once outside, a person can remain under TDCJ Parole Division supervision. Parole and mandatory supervision are forms of supervised release, not full discharge. The person may remain visible in state data. If the sentence and supervision later end, the discharge date answers a different question. Murray Unit Facility Profile
The official unit page lists Murray's capacity as 1,264 and its custody range as G1 through G4 plus security detention. Murray is co-located with Crain, Hilltop, and Woodman. These are institutional facts, not a current population count or measure of releases. The LM code helps identify the facility in TDCJ material.
Co-location can obscure the difference between a unit assignment and a release location. A person may move within the Gatesville complex without leaving TDCJ custody. Always compare the named unit with the scheduled site and completed event.
Coryell's Six-Prison Release Network
Coryell County has six TDCJ prisons as well as its county jail. Woodman performs diagnostic intake for women. Crain performs intake and has a regional release-site role. O'Daniel retains code MV from the former Mountain View name. Murray adds a strong pre-release program profile. These distinct functions all produce movement near Gatesville, but movement is not one event.
An arrival at Woodman may mark the start of state confinement. Transfer to Crain can be part of release processing or continued custody. Murray program participation can precede a release while still falling short of it. Resolve the direction of travel from the person's TDCJ detail, audited scheduled fields, actual release record, and supervision status.
